On Thursday, May 29, as part of the Jazz Waves program of Pula’s Summer Cultural Season, the stage of the Small Roman Theatre will host the acclaimed Italian trumpeter Fabrizio Bosso with his quartet.

Fabrizio Bosso, born in Turin in 1973, began playing the trumpet at the age of five and graduated from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Turin at just fifteen.

Renowned for his technical virtuosity and expressive style, Bosso blends post-bop jazz with elements from other musical genres. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with numerous prominent musicians, including George Russell, Dave Liebman, Steve Coleman, Gianni Basso, and Enrico Pieranunzi.

His discography includes albums such as Fast Flight (1997), You’ve Changed (2007), and WE4 (2020), which he recorded with his current quartet. He is also known for tribute projects, such as We Wonder (2022), dedicated to Stevie Wonder.

Bosso has received numerous accolades, including Best New Jazz Artist by Musica Jazz magazine in 1999 and the Italian Django d’Or Award in 2002.

His work is characterized by a blend of technical precision, emotional depth, and openness to diverse musical influences, making him one of the most respected jazz trumpeters on the international scene.

The album WE4, which he will present to the Pula audience, was released on November 27, 2020, under Warner Music. The project emerged shortly after the COVID-19 lockdown and was recorded on June 5, 2020, in Rome. The album reflects a deep sense of connection and unity among the quartet members, highlighting the importance of shared musical experiences and collective expression.

The quartet features:

  • Fabrizio Bosso – trumpet and flugelhorn

  • Julian Oliver Mazzariello – piano

  • Jacopo Ferrazza – double bass

  • Nicola Angelucci – drums

The album’s repertoire consists mainly of original compositions written specifically for this ensemble. It includes collaborative pieces such as the title track WE4, along with Control Freak and The Way We See. The album also features two covers: Estudio Misterioso by Lilu Aguiar and the jazz standard For Heaven’s Sake.

One particularly notable composition is One Humanity, dedicated to the victims of racism in the United States, delivering a powerful message of brotherhood and solidarity. The entire album is marked by a subtle balance between individual expression and group cohesion, with a strong focus on interaction and shared musical language.

WE4 is available on most digital platforms, including Amazon and major streaming services.
