- Text hrvatski: Ovogodišnji program Jazz Waves koji ujedno otvara Pulsko kulturno ljeto 2025., započinje u srijedu, 28. svibnja, u Malom rimskom kazalištu, i to nastupom Ede Maajke i Jazz orkestra HRT-a pod ravnanjem dirigenta Mirona Hausera. - 2012.) gdje surađuje s uglednim glazbenicima svjetske jazz scene: Toshiko Akiyoshi, Joseph Bowie, John Hollenbeck, Dave Liebman, Peter Erskine, Jim McNeely, Miljenko Prohaska, Yellowjackets, Randy Brecker, Bob Mintzer i drugima.
- Text engleski: This year’s Jazz Waves program, which also opens the Pula Cultural Summer 2025, begins on Wednesday, May 28th, at the Small Roman Theatre, with a performance by Edo Maajka and the HRT Jazz Orchestra under the baton of conductor Miron Hauser. The Jazz Orchestra of Croatian Radiotelevision, the only professional ensemble of its kind in Croatia, has, through its activity spanning more than seven decades, ranked among the longest-standing big bands in the world. Since 2000, it has held its own concert series, which is recorded or broadcast live on the Third Program of Croatian Radio. One of the orchestra’s special features is that most members, in addition to being performers, also work as composers and arrangers. Miljenko Prohaska, who led the orchestra the longest, from 1955 to 1989, directed its programming toward domestic repertoire, through which the orchestra developed a distinctive style recognized internationally. Their work is documented in audio and video recordings stored in the HRT archive, as well as in a series of multiple award-winning discographic releases. Among the more recent ones are the Porin-awarded “Insite” by Davor Križić (Aquarius Records/HRT), “Za vašu poslijepodnevnu razonodu” with Darko Rundek (Menart/HRT), “Candide” by Mario Bočić (Croatia Records/HRT), and “Nešto veće od nas” with Mangroove (Aquarius Records). Since the 2019/2020 season, the artistic director of the HRT Jazz Orchestra has been Miron Hauser. Miron Hauser (Pula, 1985) graduated in jazz trombone from the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz in the class of Ed Neumeister, and earned his master’s degree at the Giuseppe Tartini Conservatory in Trieste. He first came into contact with jazz even before his formal education, as a member of the Croatian Youth Music Jazz Orchestra (2004–2012), where he collaborated with renowned musicians from the world jazz scene: Toshiko Akiyoshi, Joseph Bowie, John Hollenbeck, Dave Liebman, Peter Erskine, Jim McNeely, Miljenko Prohaska, Yellowjackets, Randy Brecker, Bob Mintzer, and others. Since 2011, he has been a member of the HRT Jazz Orchestra, where he works as a trombonist, arranger, composer, and conductor, and he is also one of the founders of the JazzIstra Orchestra. He is a member of the Slovenian-Cuban ensemble Los Señores, an occasional guest of the band Cubismo, and has also played with the Cuban salsa group Maykel Blanco y su Salsa Mayor. From 2011 to 2016, he was a permanent member of the pop band Jinx. He has collaborated with a number of Croatian pop musicians, including Oliver Dragojević, Nina Badrić, Natali Dizdar, and Gibonni. He is a three-time recipient of the Status Award from the Croatian Musicians Union for best jazz trombonist, and a multiple Porin Award winner. On his first solo album, “Moja Kuba” (Cantus, HRT, 2024), recorded with the HRT Jazz Orchestra, he presented himself as a composer, arranger, trombonist, and conductor, and for this album, he won the Porin this year for Best Jazz Album. … The long-awaited opening of last year’s concert season of the HRT Jazz Orchestra in collaboration with Edo Maajka took place on October 2, 2024, at the Gorgona Hall of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb. Fans of hip hop and jazz enthusiasts gathered in large numbers to hear the repertoire of the acclaimed rapper, producer, and lyricist in an unusual fusion with the sound of a big band. The arrangements were written by Bruna Matić, Luka Žužić, and Miron Hauser. The collaboration came about at Hauser’s initiative, and the program was jointly designed by him and Edo Maajka. They selected songs for which arrangements had already been made by Luka Žužić, who had previously worked with Maajka on the compilation album “Spomen ploča” (2010), and added new ones with the criterion that the songs be suitable for orchestral arrangements. Thus, the selection represents a cross-section of Edo’s rich body of work, from the first albums that defined the Croatian hip hop scene-“Slušaj Mater” (2002) and “No sikiriki” (2004)-to the most recently released album Moćno (2022), which won the Porin Award for Best Hip Hop Album. The audience in Pula will have the opportunity to hear this interesting musical collaboration in the unique setting of the Small Roman Theatre.

The highly anticipated opening of last season’s HRT Jazz Orchestra concert series in collaboration with Edo Maajka took place on October 2, 2024, at the Gorgona Hall of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb. Hip hop fans and jazz enthusiasts gathered in large numbers to experience the work of the celebrated rapper, producer, and lyricist in a rare blend with the sound of a big band. The arrangements were written by Bruna Matić, Luka Žužić, and Miron Hauser. The collaboration came at Hauser’s initiative, and the program was developed together by him and Edo Maajka. They selected songs previously arranged by Luka Žužić for the compilation album Spomen ploča (2010), and added new ones based on their suitability for orchestral interpretation.
The final selection spans the rich breadth of Edo’s musical career, from his early albums that defined the Croatian hip hop scene – Slušaj Mater (2002) and No sikiriki (2004) – to his latest release Moćno (2022), which won a Porin Award for Best Hip Hop Album.
This fascinating musical collaboration will be presented to the Pula audience in the unique setting of the Small Roman Theatre.
